Objectives: This is a general overview of what the teacher will teach and what the student is expected to master.

The student will develop and apply expansive knowledge of words and word meanings

to communicate.The student will analyze the relationships of pairs of words in analogical statements synonyms and antonyms) and infer word meanings from these relationships.

The student will comprehend, respond to, interpret, or evaluate a variety of texts of

increasing length, difficulty, and complexity.The student will analyze or evaluate texts to synthesize responses for summary, précis, explication, etc. Short stories, novels, biographies, autobiographies, narrative essays. Drama. The student will produce, analyze, and evaluate effective communication.Determine audience • Determine purpose • Generate ideas • Address

prompt/topic • Organize ideas • Compose a clearly stated thesis. The student will analyze text to determine the appropriate use of advanced mechanics in composing or editing. The students will identify sentences with appropriately placed apostrophes. Semicolons to separate items in a series when items include commas Coordinate adjectives.The student will manipulate sentence structure to achieve a purpose such as clarification,definition, or emphasis in composing or editing.Avoiding misplaced modifiers to ensure clarity.Using subordination to express the relationship between two unequal ideas within a single sentence.

 

 

Tests and Grades

 

Grading:  A=90-100  B=80-89  C=75-79  D=70-74  F=below 70  I=incomplete

Grading follows the policies of Biloxi Public Schools.  A mid-term progress report and a report card following the end of each term are issued.  The student’s current grades are available via Internet IOD. (http://iiod.ssts.com/Home.asp?state=MS)

 

Tests: There will be weekly SATP Prep or Literature Tests . Daily notebooks will be 20%, Tests 40%, CTA 20%, Participation 20%.

      

Retesting:  Students may retake any test inside of quarter with the exception of the CTA. In order to be eligible for retesting a student must sign up for a reteaching session with Mr. Wadsworth outside of the regular scheduled classes inaccordance with district policy.  

 

Homework/Assignments/Projects: There will be Subject Area tests for Grammar and Writing this term.

 

Course Requirements: Students are expected to come prepared with a good attitude and complete assignments in a timely manner.
